HMFIC’s (Slightly Intoxicated) Thoughts on Leadership 28FEB2016

As I look upon the Army today, I see so many leaders more concerned with their career track than advocating for their soldiers. More concerned with not “rocking the boat” than going full potato hard in the f*cking paint for the men they are entrusted to lead.

I must ask this: If you are more concerned with not losing your rank or your next promotion than you are advocating for your soldiers…why are you standing in front of that formation? You EXIST for THEM, and you are their champion. They are NOT just names on a roster, an accountable item, they are SOLDIERS and are counting on YOU to mold them, train hem, lead them and develop them. They look to YOU for guidance and approval.

I can sum up my leadership philosophy with a quote from the Art of War, which holds true to this day.

“Regard your soldiers as your children, and they will follow you into the deepest valleys; look on them as your own beloved sons, and they will stand by you even unto death.”
Sun Tzu

Leaders. Take a moment to reflect, if you are not approaching your position with the above in mind perhaps it is time for a change.
